Innocence
1Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, This is the only account of a song being sung in all of Exodus. After crossing the Rea Sea, which opened like a door to let the Israelites through and then closed on the Egyptians to kill them, Moses and the children of Israel sing a song. 1Verily, verily, I say unto you,. He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. 4And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. 5And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. 6This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.
7Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 7Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. 8All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. 9I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. 10The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. 11I am the good shepherd: 12But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. 13The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. 14I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. 15As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.17Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.18No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
John’s only mention of Jesus telling a parable. This tells about entering through the door and the porter opens the door. Talks about fleeing from a stranger. Talks about going in and out of the door. The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy. After the Red Sea opens and closes to free the children of Israel, Moses starts to sing a song about what happened. . God was the door “the open sea” that saved Israel. Jesus speaks a parable of Himself as a door and sheep going in and out of it and being saved. Jesus is the door.

Self Awareness
I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: The Lord Triumphs by dividing the sea. The believers live and the non-believers die. 19There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings. 20And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him? 21Others said, These are not the words of him that hath a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind? There is division, some believe and some don’t. At the Red Sea, God divided the Sea and He divided Egypt and Israel. Jesus causes division in His day.

the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. The Lord does a miraculous work and the Egyptians are drowned in the sea. 22And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter. 23And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon’s porch. 24Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. 25Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. 26But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: The Jews want Jesus to tell them plainly if he is the Christ. Jesus says look to his works. Jesus says His sheep follow Him.

The works of God bear witness of God.

Promise
2The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him. The Lord has become salvation, He is strong and He is their God. They talk about “my father’s God.” 28And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. 30I and my Father are one.

Jesus gives His sheep eternal life and they will not perish, neither will any man pluck them out of His hand. Jesus and the Father are one. Moses says “my father’s God” and Jesus calls God “my Father.” Salvation of Israel through the Red Sea and Jesus says man can’t be pluck out of His hand.

Law
3The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name. The Lord is a man of war. The Lord went to war with the Egyptians and defeated them. 31Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. 32Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me? 33The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God. 34Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? 35If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; The Jews go to war with Jesus and try to kill Him. Jesus tells them He has done many good works. The Lord is a “man” of war vs. man goes to war with Jesus. They say Jesus makes Himself God. Jesus says their bible says that men are gods.

“Man” Moses was God to Pharaoh and “Man” Jesus is God to those He is talking to. God came to both in a man.

Grace -in-
4Pharaoh’s chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea. 5The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone. 6Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy. 7And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble. 8And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea. 9The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them. 10Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters. This part recounts the work of God that drowned the Egyptians. 36Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? 37If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him. Jesus tells the Jews if He does not the works of His Father, then don’t believe Him. Again the works of God should be used to believe God. The Jews should know Jesus/God by His work and Pharaoh knew who God was by God’s work (just like God said Pharaoh would).

God’s Rule
11Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? 12Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them. 13Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation. 14The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina. 15Then the dukes of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away. 16Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased. 17Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established. 18The LORD shall reign for ever and ever. 19For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea. 20And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. 21And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. This part recounts how Pharaoh sought to take the Israelites and they escaped out of his hand. 39Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand, The Jews sought to take Jesus but He escaped out of their hand. Children of Israel/Jesus escape out of the “hand” of the ones trying to take them/Him. Note how both reference the hand as the means of capture.
