17Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, …

 Jesus says that He will lay His life down. John 19:28-30
28After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. 29Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. 30When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

 The One with living water for all who ask, is now thirsty at the time of His emanate death.

Jesus lays His life down and dies.

Jesus prophesied that He would die and He does. He lays His own life down.
