Genesis 4:8b-12
8band it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper? 10And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;
12When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

After the talk
The “lost” brother kills the “found” brother so he can’t bring him to God in the future.

God speaks to the “lost” brother about what he has done to his “found” brother and then God tells him the ground will not produce like it did before, think of hard “stoney” ground.

John 1:42
42And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

After the talk
The “found” brother brings the “no knowledge” brother to Jesus.

Jesus speaks to the second brother and changes his name to -stone-, think of really hard ground, ground that makes it very hard to grow crops. Both brothers then follow Jesus.

God “expects” to talk with both brothers together but can’t in one case.

Hard ground commonality
Name changed to “a stone” in one case as a “reward” and then in the other case, a punishment is put in place that will make it “harder” to till the ground and produce food.
