9And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper? 10And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;
12When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

 A first brother brings a second brother to the truth of God. God speaks to the second brother about what he has done to his brother and then tells him the ground will not produce like it did before, think of hard “stoney” ground. John 1:42b
42bAnd when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

 A first brother brings a second brother to the truth of God. Jesus speaks to the second brother and changes his name to -stone-, think of really hard ground, ground that makes it impossible to grow crops but great for building things. Both brothers then follow Jesus. Hard ground commonality

Name change to “a stone” in one story and “harder” to till and produce food in the other story.
